Our story

Built by people who read documents for a living

Valnexis grew out of long nights spent double-checking figures for reporters who had nowhere else to send them.

Origin

Started at a kitchen table in Surabaya

Valnexis began as an informal favor: a former desk editor checking a friend's environmental story against a stack of permits before deadline. Word spread among a small circle of freelancers who needed the same thing but had no checking desk to call.

Today the practice is still small by design. We work with a limited number of reporters at a time, because the kind of reading this requires — matching a claim to its source, sentence by sentence — doesn't scale well past a certain point.

We stay away from criminal reporting entirely. Our focus is the quieter, document-heavy work: environmental data, institutional records, and the kind of claims that live or die on a footnote.

What matters to us

Three things we hold onto

01

Accuracy before speed

A checking pass that misses a wrong figure isn't worth the time it saved. We'd rather take the extra day.

02

Editorial, not legal

We're honest about the edge of our role. When a passage needs a lawyer, we say so plainly.

03

Respect for the reporter

We flag concerns, we don't rewrite voices. The story stays yours; we just help it hold up.
